Laser Tattoo Removal On Man's Hand

Tips For Tattoo Removal Aftercare

After first getting your tattoo, you needed to take steps to ensure the health of your skin and its healing process.

Tattoo removal is no different.

The act of removing your tattoo is fairly hard on the body, as pigmentation is being broken down in several layers of skin. Therefore, it’s extremely important that you take the appropriate steps following your tattoo removal treatment.

We list some tips for caring for your skin post-tattoo removal.

Tattoo Removal Aftercare

Keep It Covered

For the first three days following your tattoo removal, it’s critical that you keep the treated area dry and clean.

Wash the skin with gentle soap and water before patting dry. Then apply an antibiotic ointment and cover with a bandage. Performing these steps once a day should be sufficient, unless you become concerned that the bandaging is no longer clean.

Do Not Scratch

The treated area may become dry and itchy as it heals. Take care not to scratch the skin, as it could cause bleeding, thus slowing the healing process. Press a cool cloth or ointment to the area to relieve the discomfort.

Shower Safely

It’s important to be mindful of the treated area while you are showering. High-pressure water can be harmful to the skin, so try to avoid direct contact with the spray. If this isn’t possible, consider covering the area while you shower.

Drink Water

Your skin is your largest organ. Drinking water will hydrate your organs and help speed up the healing process.

Take Tylenol

If the treated area is aching, you are able to take Tylenol. However, do not take aspirin as it increases the risk of bleeding and bruising, which will slow down the healing process.

Wear Sunscreen

The skin that has been affected by the tattoo removal will be particularly sensitive for the next while. It’s important that you apply sunscreen to the area every day for the next three months. This will prevent discolouration and additional dryness.

Being kind to your skin will actually increase the healing process and produce more favourable results. Taking the time to care for the treated area will only benefit you in the long run.
