What kind of laser is used, and how does the laser work?

At our clinic, the Laser Hair and Skin Centre, we use industry leading medical grade, gold standard equipment for all treatments that we offer. For Laser Tattoo Removal, we use the Cynosure Revite® Si – a revolutionary Q Switched nd:YAG laser that has set much higher standards and given some of the industry’s best results to date. The laser works by using its elite Proprietary PhotoAcoustic Technology Pulse® (PTP) innovation, the laser light passes through the top layer of the skin safely, leaving it unaffected, and targets the layers of skin that hold the ink elements. The energy from the laser is delivered selectively to only the pigment in the ink, then vibrating and shaking it into separated, small ink particles. At this point in time, the body then goes through a natural process of metabolizing the ink, thus fading, and if desired, ultimately removing the tattoo. That is how we give you a new canvas.

Is laser tattoo removal safe?

Laser tattoo removal is regarded as the safest method to remove a tattoo. It is non-invasive, unlike when you received your tattoo, we do no cut into nor damage the skin, just target the ink. Though there are little to no rules or regulations when it comes to laser treatments such as tattoo removal, it is important that you have a technician that is certified with a recognized institution, so that you can minimize your risk of danger. All of our technicians at our clinic are certified from leading institutions and educated on all safety measures for your treatment. When at our clinic, you are in good hands. We go above and beyond to provide the highest quality of safety for our treatments.

What kinds of tattoos can you remove?

We can remove all sorts of tattoos, including multi-colored, amateur, professional, cover up, and aged tattoos. This is excluding permanent cosmetics – the ink components in the make up of the cosmetic ink are entirely different when compared to the type of ink we remove.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatments are typically done in a couple of minutes, if not under a minute, depending on the size of the tattoo. When compared to how long you sat in that tattoo artists chair, there is virtually no comparison.

What skin types can you treat?

Our laser is cleared to treat all skin types.

How many treatments will I need to remove my tattoo?

Take into account that there are factors for your tattoo, and your skin, that will determine how many treatments needed to remove your tattoo. Every one person, and every one tattoo is unique. All depending on these factors, anywhere from 5-15 treatments could be needed.

Some of these factors include: Amateur tattoos remove easier as they are in shallower depths of the skin. Black, red and blue colored ink are typically the easier colors to remove (ink also depends on the chemicals and components in the make up of it) whereas light blues, and greens can be more stubborn to treat and require additional treatments. Placement of the tattoo is directly related to number of treatments as well, the closer to the heart the tattoo is, the easier it will be to treat as the body does not have to work as hard to metabolize the ink, the farther away, the more likely it remains that additional treatments could be needed.

Will the treatment hurt?

Our clients describe the feeling of laser tattoo removal as a warm snap of a rubber band. The treatments are so short, resulting in seconds on average, but if needed, a topical anesthetic may be used.

Can you just fade my tattoo so I can get another overtop of it?

Yes! A lot of our clients come to us for fading. We are here to help you with your requirements, and we will do all in our power to assist in doing whatever it is you want with your canvas! If there are just parts of a tattoo that you are wishing to fade or remove, we can assist with that too. It is your canvas, tell us what you want to do with it, anything is possible.

How much does it cost?

The price per treatment is dependent on the size of the tattoo. Our clinic is competitively priced at $80.00 - $100.00 per square inch, so roughly, the size of a loonie (if it were square). We don’t charge you for places that there is no ink, only what we treat with our laser.

Is there a way to reduce the price of my treatments?

This is why we came up with packages, but the fantastic thing about our packages is we tailor them to your needs after we do a consultation and assess the tattoo, and your skin. After we calculate the cost of your treatment for you, we will also provide you with the discounted cost per treatment if you are to proceed with packages. It is unlikely you will receive just one treatment, unless you abandon your mission of fading or removal, so packages are custom-made to treat those tats, and save you bucks.

Will I see a difference right away?

There will be a temporary visual effect at first, what we call frosting. This is where your tattoo will go hazy, or white. This is good, reflecting on the treatment it means we have targeted that ink nicely, but some get confused when that frosting fades and the ink is still there. The frosting is, as mentioned above, temporary, and your body will need time to grab those fragmented ink particles over time to permanently fade and remove them.

Why do I have to wait 8 weeks between treatments?

This is how long your body needs to fully metabolize the ink fragments that have vibrated and divided apart – our bodies need this time to heal itself and pull that ink. Time is our friend with these treatments.

What should I expect a consultation to be like?

Our free consultations are for our technicians to take a look at your tattoo, assess it for treatment, and discuss your health, history and wishes. Out of this we can provide feedback of realistic results, give you an estimate at how many treatments with our leading medical grade laser you will need, and calculate the cost per treatment, and discounted package cost. Out of this, we give you all of the education and information you will need to decide if tattoo fading or removal is for you, if so, lets start clearing that canvas, shall we?

What should I expect a treatment to be like?

Firstly, in our consultation, we will explain pre treatment instructions and ensure that there are no contraindications to affect the result of a treatment and preserve your safety.

On the day of your treatment we will have you comfortable in our treatment room, ensure a safe and resulting treatment, and have you sanitized and covered properly afterwards. As mentioned before, the treatments don’t take long at all.

What should I expect after a treatment?

After a treatment you will feel as if you had a sunburn on the treatment area so be nice to it! Your body is at work trying to remove that ink so your canvas is clear of unwanted tattoos.

For treatments it is vital that you follow all post care instructions vigorously to prevent unwanted repercussions – we will send you home with a pre and post care sheet after your treatment so you can refer to it. If post care instructions are ignored it could result in scarring, or permanent damage to your skin.
